Thank you, STAR Volunteers!

Patrick Dexter, Headquarters Community Relations Advisor of ExxonMobil was recognized for Exceptional Service at the Library Board of Trustees' STAR Volunteer Awards for enhancing the Fairfax County Public Library through the Foundation.


The Vietnamese American Community earned the Community Service Partner Award for coordinating the Gateway to Freedom Project Former Library Trustee, Delegate Mark Sickles served as the evening's Master of Ceremonies to express appreciation to these and other dedicated library volunteers.

Fairfax County Sets FY 2011 Budget

The Board of Supervisors adopted the Fiscal Year 2011 budget to include 11 library staff positions previously slated to be eliminated as of July 1. As a result, Tuesday evening library service will continue, as reported in the Falls Church News Press.

Tax increase may reduce library budget cuts

The Washington Post reports the consideration of raising the tax rate to bridge some of the budgetary gap for fiscal year 2011. The Washington Examiner predicts library cuts to be 10%, down from the proposed 15% reduction.

Nearly 400 speakers addressed the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors during budget hearings. Supervisors heard pleas to support schools, retain library and park services...and, somewhat surprisingly, raise taxes and fees. Read more.

Touch A Star and enhance FCPL!

Crime novelist, Simon Tolkien, grandson of legendary Lord of the Rings author, J.R.R. Tolkien autographs his new thriller The Inheritance in a live broadcast on Tuesday, April 13th at 2:00 pm. Net proceeds from the book sale during and after the Web cast will be donated to the Fairfax Library Foundation.

FCPS Superintendant confirms importance of FCPL

"I have been advocating throughout the budget process that we must maintain the quality of life in Fairfax because that is why many residents live in this community. Many of the county agencies have a direct connection with schools including libraries, police and social service agencies. Cuts to any of these services will have a negative impact on our students. I have commented about the significant reductions all of these county agencies, libraries included. I may not mention this every time, but it has frequently been part of my public comments."
