Friends petition against $3.4 million library cut in County Executive recommended budget

This 15% budget reduction translates to the elimination of 81 additional staffers, programs and hours. Read more in The Washington Examiner.

Reduced computer access at library branches and other affected services are featured in the CentreView.

The Friends of the Fairfax County Public Library encourage library friends to SIGN THE PETITION against this cut, which would eliminate 1/2 of the library budget in two years. The Falls Church News-Press reports on this petition.

More cuts expected by lowest ranking per capita expenditures in Metro DC

Fairfax Library services that are likely to be affected by another significant budget reduction are highlighted in The Washington Post. An estimated 89 full-time positions slated for elimination would affect 107 individuals, including Nancy Klein. Klein was recently presented with the Don Smith Award for helping fellow staffers as president of the library's employees association.

Bobbi Longworth, Fairfax Library Foundation Executive Director, and Sam Clay, Fairfax County Public Library Director, discuss library system services funded by tax dollars in additon to supplementary programs made possible through private donations.

Exceptional Librarian receives Don Smith EAC Awards

At the January 26th Board of Supervisors meeting, the Fairfax County Employees Advisory Council presented the 2009 Don Smith EAC Award to Nancy Klein of the Fairfax County Public Library. The award, as reported in the Sun Gazette, recognizes Klein, president of the Fairfax County Public Library Employee Association, for working with county agencies to find answers to complicated queries during the budget discussions.
